The Sun Down Motel by Simone St James
Genre: Suspense, Mystery
BUG Rating: 4/5
Overall: “For the odd girls, the nerdy girls, and the murderinos. This one’s for you.”
With an opening dedication like that – I knew this book was going to be for me! 🤓
It’s 2017, Carly is drawn to Fell, NY. Specifically, The Sun Down Motel, where her aunt Viv was last seen in 1980s. Carly is desperate to uncover the mystery around her aunt’s disappearance.
😬 We are taken on such a ride to discover “what happened to Viv” through the dual POVs/timelines (Viv/Carly) which worked sooo well and I really loved!
✍🏻 I also loved StJames’ writing style. The author really managed to create an eerie atmosphere, that gave me the creeps 😂 I don’t normally pick up supernatural books, so for those of you like me, I think you’ll still enjoy! 👻 There’s mild paranormal, which really helps build the mystery/creepiness of the motel and night shift.
🙌🏻 Along with the right level of spooky, the pace was also perfect 👌🏻 Fast enough to keep me super hooked (with lots of twists!) and slow enough for me to learn all about the characters in detail! This binge worthy, seriously mysterious read gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!
🖤 Side note: it kinda gave me A good girl’s guide to murder vibes too. Carly and Pippa’s characters felt very similar. So if you loved that, you’ll love this too!
