Never have I ever by Joshilyn Jackson
Genre: Suspense, Fiction
BUG Rating: 4/5
Overall: Never have I ever is testament to how secrets can destroy you and how far people will go to keep them hidden. Amy has a secret, but how did Roux, who’s not even been in town 5 minutes find out? It was totally addictive and full of twists and surprises! I was biting my nails throughout wondering what Amy’s and Roux’s next moves would be in the ‘game’! There were some passages when I thought this is dragging a bit/and were over the top, BUT, it was a pretty amazing book and got better the more pages I turned. This is the perfect summer suspense/psychological thriller to add to your beach reads list!
No one walks around holding their ugliest sin in the palm of their hand, staring at it. Our hearts are heavy, and we let them sink. Every day they drift lower, settling in murky places where the light can’t reach. All I had to do was wait.
It starts as a game at a book group one night. Never Have I Ever… done something I shouldn’t.
But Amy Whey has done something she shouldn’t. And Roux, the glamorous newcomer to Amy’s suburban neighbourhood, knows exactly what that is.
Roux promises she will go away – if Amy plays by her rules.
But Amy isn’t prepared to lose everything. She’s going to fight back, and in this escalating game of cat and mouse, there can be only one winner.
+ Fantastically written – loved the humour and wit!
+ Super realistic characters. Despite wanting to hate Roux, I loved how perfectly crafted her character was. I’d have loved more in regards to exploring her own past
+ Loved the dark twists
– Could have explored Roux’s past
– Char’s character could have been pumped up a bit – I found her quite dull and whingy
– A few chapters could have sped up a bit
