Book Review: My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

My Lovely Wife was on many “Most Anticipated Reads of 2019”. Also, being billed as Dexter meets Mr & Mrs Smith (I also think meets YOU) … so of course I had to try it!

My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

Genre: Thriller/Psychological thriller/Suspense

BUG Rating: 4/5

Overall: I got through this one in a day over the weekend. I’m conflicted … I did really enjoy most of it, but there were parts that were just a bit ‘too much’ for me i terms of unbelievable and i don’t think it fully lived up to the hype.
The story is told from the husband’s point of view, who is married to Millicent, has 2 teenage kids and is a tennis coach for an affluent country club. They are a ‘typical’ couple, until after 15 years of marriage, they get bored and decide to get away with murder. It was definitely a weird, dark and twisty psychological thriller, and despite not
completely loving it, it was definitely worth a read.

This is a story about a married couple. They met, fell in love, had two beautiful children. So far, so ordinary.

But they have a very dark secret.

It’s a story with a twist. And then another. And another.

You might think you’ve read stories like this before.

You’d be wrong.

By the end of the first chapter you’ll be hooked.

At page fifty you might not sleep until you finish.

And when you turn the last page, you’ll ask yourself one question:

How well do you really know the person you love most?

+ Tense, and page turner

+ Loved the plot!

– Repetitive at times

– Some parts were a bit too unbelievable
